Whisky

The art of whisky-making can be distilled into five essential stages: Grain > Beer > Spirit > Cask > Bottle. Yet, simplicity belies the intricate nature of these steps. Each phase boasts unique procedures and guidelines, from selecting and processing the grain for the base to the expertise of distillers and master blenders in sculpting flavour profiles.

Whisky's fundamental components comprise grain, water, and yeast. While most whiskies blend various grains (rye, corn, wheat, barley), sole malt whisky exclusively employs malted barley. Renowned for both these blends, and single malt Scotch, Scotland mandates oak barrel aging for a minimum of three years, labeling each bottle with the youngest aged whisky.

The Irish, pioneers of triple distillation, coined "whiskey" from "uisce beatha," Gaelic for "water of life." Irish whiskey is crafted solely in Ireland or Northern Ireland, employing malt mash, distilled water, and caramel coloring, aged for a minimum of three years in wooden casks.
